Getting Started at Your Library

Borrowing Information

Laconia Public Library cards are free if you are:

  • A resident of Laconia (adult or child)
  • A taxpayer of Laconia
  • A student attending any school in Laconia
  • An employee of a Laconia business

Non-resident cards may be purchased for $55, per year.

Laconia Public Library does not charge fines, but prompt returns are requested. There is a replacement cost for damaged or not returned items.

Computers and Research

Computers/Internet Access

There are computers providing internet access and Microsoft Office software. One computer is set aside with a scanner. Ask the circulation desk for a code to log in

Black & white printing is available for $0.10 per page, and color printing is $0.50 per page. Wifi is available throughout the building during open hours; called Library_Guest. No password is required.

Member Account

To log in to your account, enter your full Library barcode number and password in the fields in the upper right corner of the catalog welcome/search page.

NOTE: On your FIRST login, the password is your phone number, and then you will be prompted to create your unique password.

Confidentiality of Records

The Board of Trustees supports and accepts the American Library Association’s “Code of Ethics” point III which states: 

“We protect each Library user’s right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and materials consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted.” 

Further, although these records may be necessary for the pursuit of justice by law enforcement agencies, they shall not be released except by subpoena, even when a Library user has opted in to retain their circulation history.

NH RSA Section 201-D:11

Library User Records; Confidentiality.

 I. Library records which contain the names or other personal identifying information regarding the users of public or other than public libraries shall be confidential and shall not be disclosed except as provided in paragraph II. Such records include, but are not limited to, library, information system, and archival records related to the circulation and use of library materials or services, including records of materials that have been viewed or stored in electronic form.

 II. Records described in paragraph I may be disclosed to the extent necessary for the proper operation of such libraries and shall be disclosed upon request by or consent of the user or pursuant to subpoena, court order, or where otherwise required by statute.

 III. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any library from releasing statistical information and other data regarding the circulation or use of library materials provided, however, that the identity of the users of such library materials shall be considered confidential and shall not be disclosed to the general public except as provided in paragraph II.
