  3. Non-Fiction Book Club: “How Stella Learned to Talk”

    November 16, 2022, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM
    @
    Laconia Rotary Hall (Auditorium)

Join us to discuss “How Stella Learned to Talk: The Groundbreaking Story of the World’s First Talking Dog” by Christina Hunger. This inspiring and astonishing chronicle documents how Christina Hunger taught her dog, Stella, to communicate using buttons with pre-recorded words. Christina was a speech-language pathologist who specialized in working with children experiencing significant language development delays. As part of her work, she taught toddlers how to communicate using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. Christina introduced a few words to Stella as an experiment. Stella now uses a bank of 30 words to construct basic sentences and requests. Copies are available at the library. Space is limited, so sign-up is required. Call, email, or text the library to sign up! Phone: (603) 524-4775, Text: (603) 556-4666, email: info@laconialibrary.org.
