Application for a Temporary Logging/Construction Driveway Permit

  8. Driveway Regulations
    Temporary driveways must be in compliance with current zoning regulations and City policies.
  9. This permit authorizes a gravel access to be used as a temporary logging driveway. Any change in use, increase in use or reconstruction requires a re-application.
  10. The grade of the driveway’s approach to the right of way will be such that it permits a safe and controlled approach to the highway in all seasons and so designed that no water will discharge from the approach upon the paved surface of the highway.
  11. The driveway will not obstruct the natural flow of water runoff in any manner.

  13. Driveway shall not exceed 20 feet in width. The driveway may be flared. The flared radius is one half of the driveway.
  14. The owner/applicant will install ditches and culverts as necessary. Public Works must approve the plans for any ditches and the size and material of the culvert. The minimum size of any culvert is 12 inches.
  15. Anyone who disturbs any shoulders, ditches, sidewalks, embankments, or surfaces, or improvements for travel of any highway shall restore them to the satisfaction of the Director of Public Works.
  16. All excavated topsoil from the City right of way shall be reutilized in the City right of way. The contractor shall be solely responsible for the handling, transport, and disposal of any surplus material generated by the project and shall comply with all federal, state and local laws, ordinances and rules in doing so.
  17. Trucks entering signs is required on the highway when logging equipment is accessing or egressing the site
  18. The street shall be kept clean of all dirt and/or construction debris at all times. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in revocation of the permit
  19. All highway surfaces, shoulders and slopes shall be restored prior to the date the permit expires
  20. Erosion control measures must be employed to ensure that sediment laden water: does not flow into lakes, ponds or flowing bodies of water; does not flow into the City’s streets or sidewalks; and does not flow onto abutting properties.
  21. The owner of the property for the driveway shall have continuing responsibility for the adequacy of the access and any grades, culverts or other structures pertaining to such access whether in the right of way or not.
  22. Any curbing, cobblestones or other materials of value excavated from the City’s right of way are understood to be the property of the City of Laconia and will be salvaged or disposed of at the City’s discretion.
  23. All requests for driveway permits for commercial property must be reviewed and approved by the Department of Planning and Community Developed before Public Works will issue a permit.
  24. I do hereby agree to construct said driveway in complete compliance with City of Laconia ordinances and regulations, any State agency requirements and any directions received from the Public Works Department and under the conditions of this permit.
  25. Please do not pay until your driveway plan has been approved. Once approved, we will issue the driveway permit upon receipt of payment. The cost of a driveway permit is $35. We cannot accept credit card payment online or over the phone at this time. Checks (written to the "City of Laconia") can be dropped off at the DPW during business hours (Mon-Fri 7:30am-4:00pm) or can be mailed to: Laconia Department of Public Works, 27 Bisson Ave., Laconia, NH 03246.
